Mattheus placed on DL, could be shut down

The Nationals placed reliever Ryan Mattheus on the 15-day disabled list on Friday because of a right shoulder strain, and manager Davey Johnson has not ruled out Mattheus being out for the year.

Zimmermann superb, but Nationals shut out

Jordan Zimmermann allowed just one unearned run on four hits and one walk in eight innings. But his effort was outmatched by Dan Haren's, who threw 7 1/3 shutout innings and surrendered only two hits and one walk, and Washington fell to the Angels, 1-0.

Nationals shut out by Lowe, Braves

Walker's rehab assignment shut down

Nationals reliever Tyler Walker has been shut down because of an ailing shoulder. Walker, who is on the 15-day disabled list because of the injury, made four rehab appearances and was hit hard.
