The Nationals reinstated Ian Desmond from Major League Baseball's new paternity leave list on Thursday before the series finale with the New York Mets and optioned outfielder Roger Bernadina to Triple-A Syracuse.

Maxwell optioned; Atilano recalled

After Monday's 7-2 loss at Great American Ball Park, the Nationals optioned outfielder Justin Maxwell to Triple-A Syracuse and recalled right-hander Luis Atilano, who will pitch against the Reds on Tuesday night.

Lannan optioned to Double-A Harrisburg

The Nationals' Opening Day starter, John Lannan, was optioned to Double-A Harrisburg on Monday, after struggling with a 10.83 ERA in his past three starts. Reliever Joel Peralta was promoted.
