Nationals bring back most of coaching staff

Hitting coach Rick Eckstein, pitching coach Steve McCatty, third-base coach Bo Porter, first-base coach Trent Jewett and bullpen coach Jim Lett will return for the 2012 season, the Nationals announced on Thursday. The club also announced that Randy Knorr will join the staff as bench coach.

Gorzelanny wants to makes most of stint in 'pen

Davey Johnson hasn't made it a secret that Tom Gorzelanny would prefer to start, but he was taken out of the rotation because the Nationals want to give left-hander Ross Detwiler a long look. Still, Gorzelanny pitched in relief Friday, throwing three scoreless innings.

Nats' future most important at Deadline

General manager Mike Rizzo won't say if the Nationals will be buyers or sellers before the non-waiver Trade Deadline on July 31, but one thing is certain: Rizzo is not expected to stand pat.
