Farmhand Martin placed on disabled list

The Nationals placed farmhand Rafael Martin on the seven-day disabled list on Friday. Martin pitched 12 consecutive months, which included stints in the Mexican Summer League and the Mexican Winter League.

Martin undergoes successful surgery

Right-hander J.D. Martin had successful back surgery on Tuesday. It was performed by Dr Robert Watkins in California. The disc surgery lasted less than an hour.

Injured Martin to get examined in DC

Right-hander J.D. Martin, who is on the disabled list because of a bulging disc in his lower back, will return to Washington, D.C. on Sunday night and find out how serious the injury is the next day.
