Farmhand Martin placed on disabled list

The Nationals placed farmhand Rafael Martin on the seven-day disabled list on Friday. Martin pitched 12 consecutive months, which included stints in the Mexican Summer League and the Mexican Winter League.

Right-hander J.D. Martin had successful back surgery on Tuesday. It was performed by Dr Robert Watkins in California. The disc surgery lasted less than an hour.
