Desmond earns nomination for Clemente Award

Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond considers the District of Columbia his second home, and his goal all season has been to spread the love of baseball in the area. He did just that, and it explains why he is a candidate for the 2011 Roberto Clemente Award.

Desmond earns Nats Heart and Hustle Award

Shortstop Ian Desmond was the winner of the Nationals Heart and Hustle Award. It was presented to him by former Senators pitcher Jim Hannan, who is the current chairman of the MLBPAA Board of Directors.

Peralta's success earns him responsibility

Entering Saturday's action, Nationals reliever Joel Peralta had allowed one run in 14 2/3 innings. Look for him to see more action in the late innings, manager Jim Riggleman said.

Capps earns first All-Star Game appearance
