Mattheus throws 'pen session without problems

Ryan Mattheus, on the disabled list because of a sore right shoulder, had his second bullpen session on Tuesday without any problems. He threw 25 pitches, and included split-fingered fastballs and sliders.

Gorzelanny wants to makes most of stint in 'pen

Davey Johnson hasn't made it a secret that Tom Gorzelanny would prefer to start, but he was taken out of the rotation because the Nationals want to give left-hander Ross Detwiler a long look. Still, Gorzelanny pitched in relief Friday, throwing three scoreless innings.
